@kev @pranav That's true, but not just that. Certain old Thinkpad models even run Coreboot well, which means you can run a full Free Software stack all the way down to the firmware.

@Tryphon Wow, that brief history of the project was a ride.
Feeling really good about the PinePhone right now, even before he even mentioned it and put more confidence in it. -

@fluff
It is weird and creepy. Badly-written plots teaching strange morals, and each episode ends with a quote from scripture. Seriously.

@Hawk1291 is being chromium based a bad thing? Chrome based with Google junk baked in I’d say for sure. But chromium is all open source and in public eye

@ink_slinger @suetanvil And that's assuming we don't get clobbered by an asteroid or some other civilization-ending catastrophe first.
The way humanity will achieve immortality is though our synthetic descendants. They may carry our literal memories because we figured out upload, or they may just carry our values. But they will live in vacuum, possibly spending most of their way plying the interstellar depths to explore new star systems and carry interstellar mail.

Yeah. Worse is Better is better for the mass market, for consumption. Just redefine success and create a programmable, composable, networked hyperweb for people who want it, and forget about a business model or revenue stream. If it's good, we'll all be contributing to its development after we retired. In a few decades, maybe someone makes some money off it. Good for them. -

@Kro @moonman what's punk is:
0) being excellent to each other
1) not getting your electrons from the man
2) not going into debt, getting out of the hamster wheel
3) diy aesthetic
4) combining 18th century flywheels and shit with 21st century photovoltaics
i don't find stop hurting humanity superfluous

@22 It's the only way, to try to disceredit what Hong Kong people want. Call it pie in the sky, doomed to fail, disruptive to stability etc.
Otherwise they would have to explain why it would work in Hong Kong and not in Lhasa, Urumqi, Hohhot and other places.

@22 A charitable interpretation, if such is warranted, might be that the US brought democracy to Iraq at gunpoint, the result was civil war, Iraq is but the latest example of democracy at gunpoint, and Iraq is in the Middle East. -

@22 @kensanata That'll be a long wait. I assure you it's worth a visit as it is right now, even moreso if things could just regress to the way they were a decade or just a year ago.
