when i first played botw i was wary of motion aiming and just wanted to use the wiiu pro controller, but after so much splatoon i am super into motion aiming, and i just realised you can probably do motion aiming on botw for the switch right

well hopefully i can get botw on switch someday because now i'm excited

@ThisQueerBashesBack and even though it's the fault of the cis onlookers for the most part, i would appreciate if anyone who is talking about gender as a performance, is mindful of the way cis people can often use that idea to be nasty toward trans people, or anyone along the axis of gender issues (considering transness illegitimate because "it's just a performance; it's not real" etc)

@ThisQueerBashesBack i got a little ahead of myself saying that "gender isn't performative" when it can be to some people, but the folks that are saying it absolutely is performative...rub me the wrong way, because i don't agree, and i feel it should be framed subjectively rather than objectively. so that my perspective is not erased by those who have a different perspective.

hot take maybe but "gender is performative" seems to draw a lot of parallels with "women only wear nice clothing, put on makeup, and make themselves look nice in other ways, to perform for men" which is highly disgusting

seriously, my gender is not for your benefit? it's entirely for me? i may be signalling to you with my gender the certain ways i might like to be treated/approached, but that doesn't mean i'm putting on a hollow costume and pretending to be something i'm not

being trans is often the direct opposite of a performance; finally shedding the false "act" you've been putting on every day and openly being yourself

i can;t tell you how offensive it is for many trans folks to hear that you just think our gender is a performance when it's as much a part of us as anything else.

whether gender is a fake construct or not, thanks to societal conditioning, it is as important a part of us any other construct, like time or money

naturally you're gonna think gender is performative if you yourself only know it as a performance

but i'm not performing for others with my gender. i am literally being myself, for myself.

sometimes i wear certain clothes because they're comfy, or take hrt because it make me feel better physically and mentally

i'm not doing it for anyone else, at least not primarily

i'm so sick and tired of gay men being the center of attention and everyone insisting that the term "gay" encompasses the entire fucking rainbow community

as if trans women being upset that cisgay men treating gender as a performance, is antigay :/

you can wear whatever clothes you like wherever you like! just don't talk over trans women about what gender is, whether respecting pronouns and names and gender is optional or not, whether people need surgery to be trans, etc

yeah it sucks that a lot of pleroma users who did nothing wrong are facing consequences, but also maybe consider that the consequences are not only easily rectified (making a new account on mastodon, moving to a less toxic pleroma instance or creating your own with better rules/guidelines, etc) but they are also a lot nicer than the alternative of mastodon being overrun with bad behaviour and a lot of users being hurt in a space they've previously considered relatively safe

so mastodon users have the choice to either address the bad behaviour or block pleroma users outright.

some of us don't have the energy to "help" all these pleroma users integrate with our communities when many of these pleroma users don't want to change their own behaviour or admit fault. and yet they feel entitled to participation in a community without respecting its users nor the rules they put in place.

nah, that's not how it works

essentially, pleroma users (from my observation) aren't as invested in addressing toxic behaviour within their communities and would prefer to ignore the behaviour of others in their community and deflect the blame for their platform's bad reputation onto others

"pleroma isn't bad, it has many good people! YOU need to stop seeing pleroma as bad!"

chances are when most of a large community is wary of another large community, it's for good reason...

believe it or not the environments we all exist in shape us a great deal. toxic environments normalise toxic behaviour and then it looks normal to those participants, while outsiders may see it for what it is.

many folks on mastodon came here to escape toxic platforms. many folks using pleroma came to the fediverse for their own reasons, but as far as i can tell, they don't seem to have the same goals for what a community should look like

"i'm not being bad" is not only derailing the conversation about the bad behaviour and stealing attention away from the users that are actually causing problems, it doesn't in any way help your own case. it's very difficult to judge whether we ourselves are exhibiting bad behaviour.

the best thing to do would be to continue just doing whatever you're doing, while listening to complaints folks have and taking initiative to change yourself or the spaces you participate in

as much as it'd be nice to ignore what platform everyone is using, it's entirely reasonable to be cautious of certain platforms based on how the majority of users behave.

like, this has become a "not all pleroma users" thing and it's absolutely silly. we're allowed to be cautious/suspicious if your platform is run by fascists and if your friends are unapologetically spouting slurs and harmful rhetoric

@jk here's a good image. older ssd on the right with a larger pcb, on the left is what many current 2.5" ssds look like (ones with 3d nand)

@jk it's weird how sata ssds in the 2.5" form factor (standard laptop size) often have more empty space in the casing than components because flash storage is super tiny compared to hard disks

in fact, sata ssds can get to be as small as a laptop wifi card

@quine tbh i think it's perfectly okay to still be childish/silly even as an adult. the only difference is a higher expectation to know the proper time and place (which unfortunately society is way too strict about thanks to "professionalism")

i did my best and i hurt, all i can smell is the fridge even though i'm not anywhere near it right now. and the fridge still smells bad. but all of the mold and all the goop i could reach without additional tools is cleaned up.

anyway i've banned watermelons in this house. they're not allowed anymore at all.
