Had some major issues upgrading Mastodon from v2.3.1 to v2.3.2. Had to revert a version -- luckily, there were no DB changes!

I was in the same position recently (needing to buy a new laptop), and eventually after getting tired of googling, I just gave up and made sure to buy one of their models they certified would work perfectly.

Bought an Inspiron 7577, and it's been amazing. Ubuntu seriously works better on it than it did on my System76 laptop, which is sad :(

@catonano You should any games made by the Telltale Games studio. They're basically just text adventures with some graphics. The series actually gets some shit for that, even though the stories they tell are actually pretty great.

@tek @staticsafe @mike @Gargron I agree! Take the trouble out of the admin's hands, and just have the backups be automatic.

Or ask the user at install time, "Do you want to keep daily backups for up to 7 days?" , in case there's a space concern.

While there are tools to simulate a user's mouse actions, I've always found making a bot just use shortcuts to navigate a website to be way, way faster.

@nolan Exactly -- this is the main reason why Twitter is _never_ going to ban you-know-who, regardless of what they do. Engagement would plummet. They wouldn't have the brand name "Twitter" in the news, nearly daily.

Reddit somehow goes a slightly different path, with a lot more community moderation (not perfect of course, but far, far more than Twitter). There's even, according to Alexa, far more users of Reddit than Twitter. Somehow Reddit makes it work.

At one point it looked like they were basically about to sunset GV, and roll everything into Hangouts. I did the integration as well.

Then, out of the blue, they release a new, better version of GV and Hangouts starts being ignored.

@trwnh Also, SMS is still the way to go. I used to not really use it, but in the past year or two as messaging has completely fractured, I now communicate with it as much as possible.

I love my Dad, but I never should've showed him Google Hangouts. He's still using it, years after it's become a zombie app, and I either have to keep it installed or miss messages from him now.

2019: Twitter introduces Twitter Communities(tm).

Accounts created in a community are private by default, and can only contact and be contacted with other users in the same community.

Other than that, it will use the same Twitter backend, and Twitter Community users can still follow public accounts, so Twitter can still push ads/sponsored posts/algorithmically-chosen shitposts from celebrities.

@tindall I've seen some neat Steampunk versions of this in the past. The Datamancer (https://datamancer.com/) could probably make you one, but it'd cost a fortune.

It'd look amazing, though.
