@enron @nightpool To me, "commonwealth" sounds almost as structured as "federation." I can't stop thinking of the British Empire. :P
I like "towns" -- there's already a TLD for it (I even picked it for my instance). I like "neighbourhoods" too.

My main employer _finally_ switched to 2FA for our enterprise login, and it is a _really_ secure 2FA. No joke, I am typing in a 16-digit string of characters everytime I have to log in.
Moving to a new location that does *not* have recycling pickup, after having recycling pickup for the past seven years. I am heavily conflicted about this.
@enron @nightpool What about just "community?" I saw a toot several months ago about describing the mastoverse in terms of "towns" and "communities."

It comes at the issue from a slightly different angle, but comes to the same conclusion -- how we code today, just rows and rows of text on a page, has to change, because the size of codebases we work with is quickly becoming too large for most people to visualize.
"And lot of USA social networks do assume that you are "available for business 24/7 and that "work *is* life""
You. Have. No. Idea. :)
I _constantly_ fight this mindset in the US.
@DrDonnaYates If "fossil-related crimes" _doesn't_ involve people dying under toppled skeletons in museums, I'll be disappointed .
Someone please tell me why it is so hard to get people to stop attaching documents to email when you can just give a link to Sharepoint, dropbox, etc.
I have tried, and tried, and tried to get people to realize this.
@zigg I had this same problem when just wanting to create a company page on facebook for a small business I help manage. Facebook did not even have a way to create one without tying it into your personal account -- they don't seem to ever want you to separate personal life from business life, which, if nothing else, is a problem with work/life balance. :)
In the end I just deleted my personal account and created a new one with no friends just for managing the social media pages for my business.
@webinista Is it necessarily a hurdle, though?
To me, "Mastodon" isn't a social network -- it's a platform, or just an application. The social networks are the individual instances. Each instance can handle separately how they introduce themselves to new members -- I don't think it's a problem that needs to be fixed at the platform level.

The Switch is probably the most innovative piece of hardware I've used in 25 years. Holy crap. Good job, Nintendo.
I haven't been this delighted holding a piece of gaming hardware since I first held the original Game Boy back when it first came out.
@mulander Perhaps FDE on cloud servers could be useful in case the company's servers are hacked?
Guess it depends on where they're storing the keys though, yeah. Any sophisticated enough hack would also make sure to get the keys. I kinda always laugh when I see this option on AWS.
Watching Star Trek makes me feel very grateful that my computer never shoots blasts of sparks into my face while I'm using it

What I learned: Wikipedia is a great springboard for real Research®
@swauger The "Go Saints" thing really hit it home. :P I have a lot of family from there; thought you were a native!
