@rosen when i was a kid we used to go catch (and mostly release) fish from the cattle ponds on my family's farm in kansas. bullheads, sunfish, little bass. we used old gear that had been sitting on the back porch for decades, sometimes worms we dug up from the yard.

sometimes there would be snapping turtles or cottonmouth snakes to avoid. standing in the blazing sun with insects buzzing in the tall grass casting over and over again into the murky pond water is one of my happiest memories.

usability, like many other things in the realm of "design", is treated as some kind of magical artifact, mystically inaccessible to all but the initiates of whatever the dominant design cult is at the moment.

we should be more conscious of whose interests this kind of ideological fuzziness and nigh-religious obfuscation of reality actually serves.

@vilmibm we sometimes refer to ours as "the prince of darkness" or "that furry asshole", but otherwise same.

@vilmibm i am a person who just bought an air conditioner for his asshole cat, and the term "furbaby" makes me want the giant meteor to come sooner.

@dch i think this is literally the basis of the entire concept of DNT: it was originally supposed to get legal teeth.

@brainblasted fwiw, "flower" is also a way to say "weed" these days, at least 'round here.

i probably wouldn't worry 'bout that association cropping up too much with "flowerbuds" though.

re: pinboard, i pull a sidebar linkblog into my main thing from pinboard & newsblur rss, but curating that a little more does seem like an interesting idea...

i keep waiting for things we think of as version control features to get rolled into filesystems, but filesystem evolution takes an incredibly long time relative to other software, and isn't always characterized by _progress_...
