    @ink_slinger Do you have a source for your claim that the word enemy has a specific meaning in this case. It sounds to me that we're now on some sort of philosophical hair-splitting on the meaning of the word.

    My point is that, anyone who characterises Russia as an enemy is well justified, even if others don't agree on what the meaning of the word enemy is (?!), it's close enough.

    @ink_slinger
    Regardless of how you or I define the word, it is quite clear that the democrats calling Russia an enemy can be justified.

    It is apparently not a word you would use, yet their characterisation of Russia as an enemy is far from hyperbolic. It is, in fact quite reasonable. This, even if we were to accept your view, yet allow for others to have their own well thought through and substantiated positions.

    @ink_slinger That's crazy talk. You have done quite a bit of acrobatics in how you have defined "enemy" in this case. 🙂

    @deadsuperhero A similar result would occur if enough people left twitter. #45 and his ilk are big reasons why I left it myself.

    Fingers crossed the exodus continues and accelerates.

    @ink_slinger 😄

    Hmm. There appears to be a false equivalency. Also, that two countries are not presently engaged in physical military conflict, does not mean that they are not enemies -- that's a very low bar.

    If I understand correctly, you are saying that Russia is not an enemy of the US, even though they manipulated the election for the US head of state, and undermined their democratic system?

    Is that what you are saying?

    @ink_slinger To name a few things: Russia hacked both US' political parties systems and some voting machines, sabotaged their presidential election, invaded one US ally (Ukraine), and launched chemical weapons attacks on the soil of one of their closest allies (the UK). If that's not an enemy, then what is?? 🤔

    Hey. If someone has blocked you, don't keep publicly discussing them with others on your TL. It incites others to harass them in your stead. Yes, even if you don't direct it. If you keep publicly going on about someone, followers who are already wanting someone to attack will seize the opportunity to "defend" you by harassing them. If someone blocks you, just don't talk about them. Be responsible about the effect of your actions.

    I've already written my MP on this. He is an NDP MP, so he fortunately agrees with us. It would be nice if the Liberals would listen.

    @susannah @ink_slinger I've thought the same thing. Some of the money could also go to education, job training, medicine, and extended EI for oil workers who need it. I wish we would do that!

    @ThatGeoGuy That said, anything can happen. If #45 can become the US president, really, nothing can surprise me any more.

    Fortunately, new (hopefully, more sane) governments are likely coming to the US and Mexico -- that would change the situation a lot.

    So I still think Canada is in a fairly strong position, given the circumstances, and that it's really unlikely that NAFTA will be dissolved. We don't have to rush into a bad arrangement, that's for sure.

    @ThatGeoGuy Ah. I didn't even know about that type of visa, or what the rules are around it. I wouldn't worry about that too much though. Even if they did dump NAFTA completely, it would take a long time, and they would have a lot of other details to work out (to your point).

    As well, the US congress would have to pass a law to back the US out of NAFTA -- that is very unlikely (especially with an election looming), as the US has *a lot* at stake here too, maybe more so than Canada.

      The end of NAFTA would be good riddance in many areas. It would bury Chapter 11 once and for all. We would assume sovereign control of our energy resources again. Farmers and auto workers would be protected

    @adambrenecki Windows does still have lots of creepy phone-home stuff like that, I am quite sure.

    To get away from that, your best bet is Linux, though Apple is at least a bit better than MS about privacy and security.

    You might be amazed at how easy to use Linux is. My favourite Linux distribution is Fedora KDE spin. 🙂
