I'm in the process of forming my thoughts for my doctoral thesis. I know my thinking is interdisciplinary (other words used include: non-academic, backwards, and unscholarly) and many days I wonder why I insist on pushing this big boulder up this hill. Next time I wonder why, I'm going to return to Tiffany's post - *that's* why!

@lauraritchie Sunshine in the shadows... Keep writing, you are helping me crystalize this idea...

... in my research it needs to be collaborative, a "we, " with my goals as "lead researcher" to be to possibly start at the front, but to slowly be overtaken by the rest of the ''we" so that eventually they forget I am there (the sunshine in the shadows). -- Like walking a group of girls between two venues at a birthday party!

Today I had a birthday party for my 10-year old. I took 7 girls to the fancy new indoor trampoline park, but I think they had the most fun on the walk (for me, they mostly ran) there and back (in the rain). They giggled and squealed, forged a path through some trees and got a couple of big trucks to honk for them (all in 500m each way). Started to wonder how often these kids have are given the freedom to walk somewhere... #smallstories

@Downes @lauraritchie You have my head spinning... Connections between Kant and Treveranus which in turn connect Foucault and von Hippel. Is is seeming so clear that these *are* the "academic literature" answers to my "hairball research".

Though still feels like Jeopardy, I get closer to the answers with still no clear research question.

My two biggest kids came home last evening: one for the summer and one only for the weekend. I listened as the sounds of the house returned to "normal." I know this is temporary and no longer the normal which makes it all the more wonderful. #smallstories

@Damage Obviously the decision is up to you, but just putting out there that it is always ok to quit. For a short time, for a long time, it’s ok to quit especially if something it making you unhappy. 🌻

@chosafine Currently in the process of turning off what is likely the best tool for the job at hand for legacy issues. The new tool is a beast, but sometimes there is only forwards...

Two days into facilitating a 3-day event to review, improve and map processes in our training department. This morning things got a little heated as we tackled use of a well loved but extremely outdated LMS. I am still not exactly sure how, but by the end of the day we had gained consensus on a new path away from the beloved beast, into a new database in preparation for an unknown future. Wow. Can I just say what a privilege it is to work with this team? #thisday

@Downes @clintlalonde @lauraritchie Preparing for a conference in Oklahoma last year, I reached out to an indigenous student activist (my word & maybe not right one) on Twitter to explain Canadian tradition & ask if it was appropriate and who one might acknowledge. She shared a (somewhat ranty) history of the area which I then shared at the beginning of my presentation.

Every situation & place is different but I’m so glad I asked the question and was able to share her words.

Somehow this made me think about Pooh and Christopher Robbins in the 100 Acre Woods.

A friend scrolling a media company twitter feed just sent me some pics of my daughter from a gym competition. She wasn’t named and maybe it’s not a big deal, but I do take care to not post pics of their faces.

Driving home down my street today, I first passed a group of kids with little cups of water and dandelions sitting on a blanket, lovingly caring for the pretty flowers. Across the street an (really , really) old woman, stepped out of her house decked out in her spandex cycling gear ready for a ride. Sometimes I feel old, but then I find myself smiling at the dandelions in the grass and thinking again about buying a new bike... #smallstories

@lauraritchie @Downes And maybe it's not a question of "not being afraid" but what we are most afraid of.

When we act unethically (and I think we all do at times even if unintentionally), we are simply driven by different fears.

So maybe ethical behaviour is driven by some fears while choosing to let go of others.
