@frank Ich möchte insofern ja Niemandem verbieten Twitter oder / und Facebook zu nutzen - klar, hast du auch nicht geschrieben. :) Ich verstehe nur dieses Prinzip nicht so ganz. Was ich entnehmen konnte ist beispielsweise hinsichtlich Frau Nocun, dass sie ein Buch geschrieben hat (Titel "Die Daten, die ich rief"). Sicherlich sind wir Menschen durchaus auch gerne von uns selbst eingenommen: Was wir nicht kennen, lehnen wir ab, schlimmer noch verurteilen wir oder meinen es könnte uns NIEMALS passieren. Eigene Betroffenheit ändert Vieles, aber nicht Alles. So kann ein solches Buch auch helfen. Aber nur, wenn die Autorin sich selbst hinterfragen lässt oder das auch macht.

Allein die Beschreibung des Buches zeigt mir wieder mehr Doppelmoral: Anklagen gegenüber Großkonzernen, Banken und mehr. Dahinter stehen aber IMMER Menschen und genau diese muss man erreichen. Kritik ist ein probates Mittel, aber derweil kann man #Google und Co. nicht einfach so von diesem Weg abbringen. Es gehören faktisch immer Zwei dazu: "Einer der macht und Einer der machen lässt!" Es braucht mehr Menschen, die sich zur Dezentralität entschließen, genau wie du es getan hast. :) -

Using #Google products like I do, occasionally? I'd like to recommend these:
https://myactivity.google.com/myactivity and click on the three dots, pick «Delete activity by», and then delete them all (for example). I like to keep some of my YouTube history around, for a bit. But you can delete it, too.
Also visit https://myaccount.google.com/activitycontrols and check whether you have «Web & App Activity» disabled ("paused") as well has «Location History».
All of this didn't hurt my Google experience one bit. 😃 👌 -

I really need to look at going full FOSS-droid at some point. I just with OSM didn't completely suck for navigation. Google Maps is great for that. Maybe I could get an old school, dedicated GPS unit for use in the car.

For all those having panickily migrated their projects from #Github to #GitLab to get away from MS: GitLab just started the process of migrating to the Google cloud (GCP). Which means it won't be available in some countries (Crimea, Cuba, Iran, North Korea, Sudan, and Syria) anymore because of "legal restrictions", as #Google informed them. Hopefully none of the migrators lives in any of them: migration is running already, no access possible anymore.

Und Stringenz bedeutet nebenbei auch, dass man irgendwann wirklich neue Wege ausprobiert. Wenn #Diaspora Probleme mit der Diskussionskultur hat, dann lohnt es mitnichten dort noch weiter auszuharren. Und #Libertree ist zwar ein freundlicher Ort, aber man ist dort ebenso zu faulen Kompromissen bereit. Also #Google nutzen, weil es eben "bequem" ist und Inhalte seitens #Twitter teilen, weil eben dort die Diskussion stattfindet, so zumindest die Meinung, welche man in Diskussionen gespiegelt bekommt. Als würde man sich wirklich noch freiwillig Beleidigungen und Herabsetzungen aussetzen wollen. Aber Wille zum Verändern? Kaum. Und faule Kompromisse ziehen sich wirklich weiter, direkt in gesellschaftpolitische Ereignisse und Vorhaben - Stichwort "Aufstehen". Ach nein: Dann doch wirklich einfach wie schlicht der Gegenpol zu bestehender Attitüde. #Aus-Gründen #Genervt #Gedanken #Meinung -

All the #distributed, #federated #webapps in the world don't matter if they're prohibitively hard for people to run (ie #selfhost!).
That's how most of the world's #email ended up owned by #Google and #Microsoft.
So it's almost criminal that the leading #FOSS #selfhosting platform @yunohost is only getting €9.63 a week from their #Liberapay.
We can do better! Let's make it easy for everyone to host #Mastodon, #Peertube, #Wordpress, #Pixelfed etc!

Was man so unter #Datenschutz versteht? Öffentliche Beiträge verbergen? Kontakte verbergen? Am Liebsten gar nichts außer sich selbst, und selbst das ist schon dann zu viel? Jau, soziale NETZWERKE kann und soll man auch schützen. Aber das hat mich schon bei #Libertree extrem gestört: Dort gibt es die Voreinstellung Beiträge dem eigenen "Baum" oder "Wald" mitzuteilen. #Libertree verwendet da eine sehr bildhafte Sprache für Instanzen (Bäume) und das Netzwerk allgemein (Wald).
Und das Argument dafür? #Google könnte das dann finden. Okay, aber wenn nicht viel ersichtlich ist dann sieht das nach außen hin wie aus? Nun ja, aber natürlich ist die eigene Person wichtiger als alle Anderen. #Stop-Playing-Bullshit #Dezentraler-Unsinn

My almost-10-year-old laptop is finally starting to go on me...past the point that Linux can keep it going, I think.
Now I'm wondering what to replace it with. #Chromebooks seem ideal for the kind of fast, low cost device I'm looking for. But I've been making a point of moving away from #Google services over the past few years, so jumping into #Chrome OS would be rather counter to that.
Ideas for cheap #laptops that can run #Linux (*buntu) with few or no issues?

@frank Hmm, ich stelle die Plattform respektive die Inhalte auf #YouTube generell in Frage. Das was ich in zurückliegenden Analysen für mich privat dort gesehen habe war großteils wirklich nur impertinent oder in der Gesamtheit "selbsterhöhend". Wahlweise gebrauchen sich Menschen zu einer Art Werbebanner oder aber machen sich nur über Andere lustig, in der Hoffnung Zuschauer klicken nur zahlreich genug auf diese Inhalte.
Keine Frage: Es gibt dort sicherlich tolle Anleitungen, Informationen und weitergehende Bildungsmöglichkeiten. Aber wo derlei Licht ist, bleibt auch weit mehr Schatten. Und es ist deutlich zu erkennen, dass #Google lieber heftigste Emotionen noch fördert und damit Einnahmen generiert. Davon ab, dass sich Videoersteller dann auch noch aus der Verantwortung ziehen: Was dann teils in den Kommentaren zu sehen und zu lesen ist gibt dann noch den Rest. In der Gesamtheit habe ich für mich #YouTube komplett im Proxy gesperrt und suche mir dann Videoinhalte auf alternativen, möglichst freien Plattformen bzw. möchte Andere dazu motivieren (mit #OpenStreamer beispielsweise: openstreamer.org). -
