    https://joinmobilizon.org/en/

    You can follow it here:

    @mobilizon

It's already achieved its funding goals for events, groups and ActivityPub federation.

Further funds will go to mobile apps, UI development and advanced maps.

It's backed by @Framasoft , the free software organisation that backed PeerTube and many other alternatives.

Many people have good critical thinking and recognise con artists, but many don't. Many fall for them, I know some who have done so.

Whatever your message, the more people you reach, the more responses you get including the responses you want.

Even if a smaller percentage of a wider audience respond, the absolute number is much larger, and that's what matters in elections, primaries, fundraisers etc.

Their goal is to recruit more Nazis.

All they have to do is reach as many people as possible, because they know a certain percentage will respond to their propaganda.

Allowing them in WILL tear us apart, not just online but in the real world.

We know what happened last time people thought they could be appeased or debated.

Again, it's not just about what users find objectionable.

The problem is recruitment: if someone is swayed by neo-Nazi propaganda, they won't *want* to block it, they will go back for more.

And the consequences of that would be felt in the real world.

What *they* want you to think is that federation with them is an acceptable idea, because the marketplace of ideas will defeat them in the end.

    But it won't.

Nazis don't operate on an intellectual level. They operate on an emotional level where they tell any lie to try to provoke an irrational response.

They try to get people to think their families are in danger if the "outsiders" aren't stopped (i.e. PoC, muslims, LGBTs etc).

    Debating Nazis doesn't work.

Last week, @staltz published an article looking at the funding of open source projects.

    It's a long-form article full of nuance:

    https://staltz.com/software-below-the-poverty-line.html

Tl/dr: More needs to be done to fund open development, including more pressure on companies to donate to projects they benefit from, unionising, alternative licences and more donations in general.

This made me wonder, should there be a day on the Fediverse where we promote donations to a particular project? For example a #SupportSunday?

Also, if you do a list of instances, I'd encourage you to list instances in your own language if possible.

That kind of statement might be a comforting way of shirking moral responsibility, but it's just not true.

A social network can be a weapon if it encourages mass murder (which Gab does, and the Pittsburgh Synagogue mass murderer was a Gab member).

Slippery slope goes both ways: if you allow promotion of mass murder, why not allow spam?

No network operates with zero censorship, there's always some kind of abuse that needs to be blocked (e.g. denial of service).

I don't run mastodon.at, I'm just an end user. I have no control over what the admin does.
