Also, I'm apparently "best friends" with a TERF I spent too much time arguing with several months ago. :-P

    @js0000 I agree completely.

There just seems to be an awful lot of derision towards PHP, and I'm getting tired of it.

I guess most people aren't aware of that derision?

@lottie It kind of looks like something an AI put together? It's very word-associative -- "Charlotte" is linked both to you and to Charlotte, NC (a large city about 2 hours from here); "trans" is linked to your tweet, a pic of a Trans Am, and the Trans Siberian Orchestra performing in Greensboro (another NC town on I-85).

Weird, but I don't see any dogwhistles.

    Okay, lazywoozle looked it up:

"Perl "golf" is the pastime of reducing the number of characters (key "strokes") used in a Perl program to the bare minimum"

I see the appeal for Perl in particular.

...and I'll just stop there :D

@shoutcacophony Yeah, I agree and I have ideas for better governance models at all scales.

What kinds of solutions were you actually looking for, though? (Not rhetorical; just harking back to an earlier point in the dialogue.)

You're assuming I have time to document my sources...

I'm going on largely undocumented experience, but I hope to acquire sufficient data to prove or disprove my thesis in the near future.

...and I am willing to accept what the evidence shows, regardless of whether it supports said thesis.

Would happily accept grant money to study this question further. >.>

The word is often used that way, but the way I mean it they would have to justify their decisions on a level playing-field -- so kind of the opposite of classist; nobody's word is beyond question.

I'd call what you're describing "rationalization".

@Angle I don't think I have -- but yeah, that summary agrees with my take.

I think people who like to say "humans aren't rational" often seem to be going on the assumption that anything short of a complete and exhaustive analysis of all known evidence is "not rational", when in reality it would be irrational to insist on such a thing because then you'd be unable to function.

Science has apparently shown that most of our decisions are made irrationally.

The implication drawn is that we aren't fundamentally rational beings; we think we're being rational, but we're ruled by emotion and intuitive connections we can't explain.

I maintain that the first sentence is only true because most of the time there *is no clear right or wrong answer*, and we fall back on feelings and intuition to break the tie -- a rational coping mechanism.

I want each of the nodes to be worker-owned, yes -- but generally they'd be small enough that it wouldn't matter as much how they were owned. If larger nodes were necessary, then there would definitely need to be some form of self-governance, preferably involving the community as well as workers.

I'm kind of unimpressed with B corps, but I may be missing some information.

    4. You write a post about how the level of abstraction involved in thinking to the next iteration after {pretending to be a bad liar so as to convince someone that you're lying when in fact you're telling the truth} has fried your brain, as an illustration of the difficulty of conceptualizing too many layers of abstraction

    (5. I write a post explaining this so you will think I am clever.)
