Periodically changing your Tor identity sorts some problems, and I use Orbot in VPN mode then use the Brave browser. I don't often run into issues. Tor browser has never really worked for me, on Android at least.

And `sudo !!` is another good one, to rerun the previous command with root permissions. The `!!` bit is substituted with whatever command came before.

I'm in a very similar situation to you! Core 2 Duo, 4 Giggles of RAM, still works reasonably fast with Debian and KDE Plasma 5. It only struggles a little with playing DVDs, and sometimes it doesn't communicate with the battery properly so it shuts down thinking it has no power. It's very usable, and makes me wonder why the average person needs much more than this (unless they're going to play games— yesterday I checked how well it can play Minecraft, and it lags a lot).

Can anyone recommend any good Sci-fi? I like Greg Bear, Sean Williams and Shane Dix specifically, and of course the classics.

Alastair Reynolds and Becky Chambers are my current favourites. It depends a lot on what you like. Reynolds writes funny, friendly and intelligent storylines. Chambers is also funny but she pushes boundaries and concepts in human culture through her exploration of human and alien relationships and ways of life. Both are great reads with engaging and human characters. I highly recommend both, if you're mainly looking for entertainment.

Nice! Where d'you find that? Do you know what kind of partnership they have? I've always used :duckduckgo: and think it's one of the best, though I believe they rely on other search engines to find their results... so 🤷♂️

It's good that they are involving themselves like that though.

Just went on Twitter for the first time in a while and it made me sad cause it's full of happy people who have places in the PiWars robot competition, but I don't. I'm jealous, I guess. 😞

So I deleted my account, I never use it anyway. It was about time I moved on from there.

@zeb It certainly sounded interesting when I read about it, but there seemed to be a whole lot of talk and not much real proof / examples. So I'm curious, but not certain anything will come of it.

Bad news I'm afraid. My entry to PiWars was rejected, so I don't have a competing place. However, I'm still going to go ahead with the build of this robot -- just not strictly with the aim of eventually competing. But... I've spoken to the organisers and I know that teams drop out at any time including on the day, so I might still be in with a chance 😉

The black line on the paper is the final footprint. The rules of competition state that the robot must be smaller than 30x23 cm so I'm going for precisely that size.
