@brandon I assume you mean openLDAP? As I understand it, plain old LDAP and AD aren't comparable products.

LDAP requires a directory service, I think.

@Qwxlea not quite. What I say is "some of the things you can within the profile editor are:" then I list some of those things, including locking your account.

I don't suggest you should do it, I just mention you can do it.

@mooshoe that's very true. You really do have a blank slate when you come here. I think the lack of friends is an important point too. New users are _very_ unlikely to have IRL friends on here.

For me though, that's an advantage. I never liked that I couldn't talk tech on my Facebook feed, as it would just bore my friends/family. Here, I can interact with like minded people and have interesting conversations, like this one.

@simon_brooke depends on the laptop, I suppose. Having said that though, there isn't much call for river basin simulations in my line of work. 😁

@Modern_Industrial @codesections @fitheach I think instances.social has potential, but it's way off the mark. It asks how many users, whether you want NSFW content, and what language, then gives you thousands of results with no simple way to filter by topic.

Join Mastodon works a little better, but is also limited. I think we definitely need a better solution.

@ar2000jp I really don't. My laptop is as performant as the desktop, and the heaviest thing I run, is the occasional Minecraft game.
