@Damage I remember cancelling BT when they put their prices up a couple of years ago and getting shouted at for "not being loyal to BT"

@tomharris Everyone here listens to something called Dinetine Radio which has ads that start "attention all tractor owners!" as if that is a major demographic
I can't find Dinetine Radio anywhere online but there is a Downtown Radio

@cstanhope Britain in the 1980s had a really strong homegrown computer scene with lots of small manufacturers of various home computers, mostly the sort that plugged into a TV for video output. We were a poor country at the time, mostly couldn't afford the computers from the US manufacturers so we did our own thing our way.
I kind of miss those days.

@cstanhope Our local radio station used to do this - here is a snippet of Martin Kelner on Bradford's Pennine Radio (now known as The Pulse) trailing the computer show Chips:

Saw a crowdfunder type thing the other day for something called a Light Phone.
It's one of those 'distraction free phones' that doesn't do apps, notifications etc.
It has a bonus feature: when you use it, people can see that you're the kind of person who is so privileged that you don't need to be bombarded with notifications from your gig economy masters to work and live.

@h That map is inaccurate - most of the UK consumer ISPs don't support IPv6. You have to go to a specialist techie (expensive!) ISP to get IPv6 yet we're shown as 'green' on there.

@ghost_bird People often use FOSS - Free and Open Source Software - but the whole thing is such a political minefield

@ND3JR I broadly agree. While I'm in support of same-sex marriage because I believe everyone has the choice to run their lives however they like, I feel like the debates and celebrations kind of sucked air out of other issues affecting LGBTQ people.
There was very much a sense that "we've got equal marriage now, we're done" when there are still a lot of marginalised people. I never want to marry, and I feel invisible when surrounded by celebrations of romantic love and sex.

@ghost_bird Leeds has the issue that Manchester, a massive city with a major LGBT community, has no GIC and the nearest is Leeds. So the service is overwhelmed because it's provisioned based on the demand from people in West Yorks and is actually servicing a much wider patch.
Basically, Manchester needs a GIC and that will ease the load on Leeds.
