"Setting an unattainable goal is a guarantee of feeling inadequate."
-
I don't think voting goes far enough.
-
Honestly, I just love the state and corporations having to convince us of why we should contribute to something rather than just being able to take money for whatever they want to do with it.
-
I wonder how a small government that is voluntary would operate where you have to opt into things instead of automatically having to pay into something.
Or if it is big like now, then something like welfare only applies if you opt-in to it... if you don't opt-in then you don't get any benefits nor are you expected to contribute. If you do opt-in then you are expected to contribute as well as getting the benefits when you need them.
Something like this would mean that the government can't just borrow from the pots, and spend however it wants. It just gives people more choice that way.
-
You are sure to irritate someone that uses your vulnerabilities against you only to find it isn't effective.
-
Tbh, it's good to be vulnerable but only with those who are trustworthy. Or if you are immune to people that will attack you for your vulnerabilities... like if you are sure of yourself as a person.

@djsumdog @moonman @guizzy @detectivehyde Yes, I think that avoiding his pet subjects would be best.
As an outsider, I didn't understand much of the exchange when it required more context. I'll be honest in saying that I leaned more towards your side than areoh. He completely overlooked your original point as if he wasn't listening to what you said, and he probably wasn't. Something about how he interacts with others repulses me. I can't put it into words what it is. Although I didn't get your hypocrisy remark. I also didn't agree with the other user jumping in to make you out to be in the wrong... there is also nothing wrong with asking for a source so that you can be on the same page rather than arguing past each other. Not that it had any bearing on your original message.
-
I would also add that there is nothing wrong with asking for a source. Especially if someone knows something you don't. Who has the time to research all of a search engine to find something out? Or perhaps you want to know the context that someone else is going off rather than finding a different context on a search engine? This is how you get on the same page with each other rather than doing research separately and possibly arguing over each other.

@detectivehyde @moonman @guizzy Either penny really believes what he says about areoh, or he knows that he is wrong and is using it. But it just came across as passive-aggressive in the end to me. Areoh rejects penny's methods of handling conflict, asserting that they aren't alike. But penny insists that somewhere inside he is a nice guy... that people will take advantage of that so he needs to toughen up. But telling a guy to toughen up is an insult. Especially because I get the feeling that areoh is has the tough guy persona... and he won't run from those who wish him ill-will. The implication is there that areoh is weak and people will walk all over him.
But yes, often people that claim to be nice aren't so nice. And certainly, we all have the potential to be nice and mean depending on the circumstance.
-
For many guys, being told to toughen up is an insult. It implies they are weak and easily taken advantage of.
-
@detectivehyde @moonman @guizzy But that is the thing... I don't think it is as innocent as moon thinks. Although Penny was originally just telling them to say fuck them rather than wasting time responding, being on his side. Areoh makes it clear it isn't an argument and that he isn't like penny, and then it became passive aggressive. It became about toughening him up and how people with ill intent will realise how nice he is. This isn't a good implication for someone that considers himself to be tough and won't run from people that mean him ill will. He does not like the implication that he is like penny either.
-
Interesting how the first instance of what could be seen as implied insulting is from areoh when he implied "advocating non-violence in all cases is naive and a very entitled way to view the world" and then he went after the character of Gandhi which wasn't being discussed prior.
He may not have meant it as being personal to djsumdog but it can be viewed that way. It wasn't exactly a positive response to someone relating their personal story. Not that one even has to respond or in a positive way but I can see why it went in a negative direction after that response where hypocrisy was brought up by djsumdog. Not that I really understood what was implied with the hypocrisy remark. Context is lost on this outsider.
I'm saying this here because I found the exchange to be interesting and feel like dumping my thoughts somewhere. Strange how a conversation can turn so bad...
-
@roka @moonman @guizzy @detectivehyde Tbh, I didn't feel like adding the zero in there. :')
-
@moonman @guizzy @detectivehyde I don't know but it did seem like a passive-aggressive exchange in the end. The implication being that there is a good heart in areoh but he's not showing it... it's a bit of a challenge. Perhaps even an implication that he is lacking it in his exchanges with others. Or that he is lacking in toughness.
I also feel like areoh puts up this tough guy act. He won't like someone challenging it.
-
@awg I agree with you. It seems some people don't want to get to know the good people on here which likely says a lot about them as people.
-
"Sometimes people come in with very poor self-esteem. If you saw them, you would never guess it. They are often attractive, accomplished and very bright. Yet, even though it does not make any sense, they feel horrible about themselves. They set impossible goals for themselves and feel inadequate when they do not reach them."
It can happen to any of us.
-
"My father was a horrible drinker, an alcoholic so I had a very hard time growing up and even as an adult of learning that people can drink and have a few without getting violent. I just always asumed that everyone was going to be like him."
Oh boy!
-
@roka Haha! I almost want to do something productive.
-
@nightingalle I don't really know all the technical details but yes. It gives you more control over that. You have less js you need to put up with! It's crazy what websites usually have. I would recommend it... especially if you use firefox.

@roka Got her thinking face on!
