So I was returning my library book to the High Park branch because the Parkdale one is closed for renovations and then I was like, well, let's just take a look around, and anyway now I'm halfway through Kim Stanley Robinson's _Aurora_

@Digital_pigeon you sure it's a jumper? I think it looks more like a running crab spider (Philodromidae)

#Springwatch observations:
- forsythia, bluebells, and snowdrops are blooming
- willow catkins aren't here yet
- lots of birds
- silk lines (spider footprints) have started to appear on fences and trees. There are many spiders about, but spiderlings haven't hatched yet -

Found this lovely and good-sized _Trochosa_ wolf spider while flipping rocks in Trintiy-Bellwoods! I was lucky to get a picture before it scampered away.

Today I learned about a whole family of spiders I didn't know about: Palpimanidae, or palp-footed spiders! http://www.jorgenlissner.dk/Palpimanidae.aspx
Look at that adorable little face: http://www.jorgenlissner.dk/images/Pictures/Palpimanus_%20gibbulus_female_JL5657_22080.JPG
(There are over 100 families of spiders worldwide.)

Announcing a new species of Mastodon: Mammut pacificus, found on the west coast of the US! The holotype is Max the Mastodon of the Western Science Center in Hemet, CA, who is quite active on social media despite being extinct for thousands of years.
The paper and 3D specimen models are open access, and research was partly crowdfunded.

“I believe that cats, descended from semi-social or asocial wild cats and having lived domestically with humans for probably less than 3,000 years, have no concept whatever of a rightful hierarchy of social or moral authority. It does not occur to a cat that any other being has any right, other than might, to its obedience, which is offered only out of immediate self-interest or personal affection. Cats are intensely opportunistic, practical anarchists.”

Reply to this with your current favorite weird nature fact!
Today I learned that sharks don't have a true upper jaw/maxilla; instead they have a bar of cartilage that's not fused to the rest of the skull.

I'd like to follow more plant biologists, ecologists, evolutionary biologists, and environmental scientists. Searching hashtags isn't getting me anywhere. Recommendations?
