(my parents grew up on sloppy joes in central KS and the tavern variant (sweet-ish sauce, store-bought hamburger buns) was the default foodstuff at every field day, auction, fundraiser, and highschool sporting event in northeast nebraska.)

i want to say that while i disliked your piece and continue to, i apologize for anything i've personally done to contribute to the atmosphere of dogpiling. your posts here are a good reminder that this is almost always a bad idea.

@impiaaa @jk i continue to never play games because what i really want is a game where you're obligated to do _nothing_ except maybe poke it once in a while. lots of interesting stuff happens anyway somehow.

i guess i just want to faff about, but there should be little animals i can watch and stuff. no one should ever assign me any tasks. nothing should feel like homework. scrambling not to die is like _right_ off the table. maybe i have a castle or something? a spaceship? i don't know.

@staticsafe i kinda feel like there's nothing to say about this that a bunch of us haven't already said a few million times. it's all still just as true and just as... i don't know... powerless, i guess?

@britvulcan @earthtopus @lawremipsum ...plus probably subject to abuse in other ways. does for that reason seem like it should be handled somewhat out-of-band from regular presentation of messages.

@grimmware i think strong copyleft is imperfect, and not necessary/desirable in all cases, but it's a bit like herd immunity: enough of it in the ecosystem is a bulwark against total enclosure by the megacorps.

my thesis is that if this weren't the case, the megacorps wouldn't be investing so much energy in killing copyleft (partly by way of convincing everyone that it's uncool and its proponents are just dogmatic idealists).

@codesections but there are _lots_ of reasons to do that! writing and self-hosting a blog system is an interesting project that can teach you a lot about your own preferences and intuitions and allows you to exercise control over a domain where your mistakes are mostly harmless and your successes are rewarding and can be built on.
