It's been a non-work TV slob-a-dobs sort of day...
my daughter and I have been binge watching Continuum ... 2 series in 2 days, and 4 episodes to go in the final season.
We're hoping there is not a disappointing 'Lost-esque' ending. So far they are keeping it going.
After this we might have to resort to going back to productive life.
@Downes yep. Itβs a music recital with a hint of public speaking that is both engaging and informative- and for them knowing βabout it β is enough of a push in the direction to 1. Find out more and2. Engage
@dogtrax @Downes Iβm a big fan of Howard! π first time I met him was on a hangout at 1am uk time... (fortunately it wasnβt live!) I can only imagine what he made of me!
@Algot thank you!!!
@webmind WOW! that's one big boat!!
@Downes I'm adding your critical thinking post to my reading list for my MA students who have to do a lecture recital. They have to make a convincing argument (about something music related) and I have used extracts from law text books... on arguing/critical thinking. Nice to triangulate with another source :)
A blog post- Summer Book Club Post 5! (yes I'm still reading)
It's a post about @Downes book with lots of edu-thoughts :)

It's a longish post, but I put in pretty pictures, vids, and a good gif. :)

@RussSharek ukulele.
They're small and cheap - and with a couple of chords you can make a world of entertainment. :)
(and they come in pretty colours too!)
@modgethanc I'm so sorry. There is such a feeling of invincibility as a young musician - and being bound by these physical bodies... keep your hands good!
@guerrillablack thanks for all you're writing. I'm listening.
I'm a teacher at uni in the UK and that job means I can encourage my students to all have a voice, believe in each of them like my own children, and work like hell to help them create opportunities and achieve their life goals.
@Tdorey @clhendricksbc I just slept. for more than an hour.
slept in the middle of the day.
and then looked at pictures of cats.

Tonight we made pizza and music. Three dear friends came over - two brought instruments. They joined me, and my eldest two children and we played and sang together - whatever came to mind.
Guitar, hammered dulcimer, two cellos, harp, and voices.
and it was bliss
@david those are lovely! amazing how something that could seem completely other than lovely (say if you're a commuter or waiting for one of those busses) looks serene and magical.
It lasted for a day here, but we made the most of it. Everyone came home - from work, from school, from college - full house, and we talked and played games, found boots and when there weren't enough gloves, wore socks on our hands. (it was only because hands grew since the last snow- we still had the smaller gloves)
Now it's melting and tomorrow it will be a memory.
What a fluffy, peaceful, coming together, lovely gift it has been.

09.52 train to London is cancelled. If I can get to Edinburgh can anyone put me up overnight? Really want to get to @Southwarkcathed by 16.15 tomorrow for UK première of one of my pieces.
@RussSharek achievement unlocked
a smile and congratulations to you!
There was a line in an old(ish) movie 'the parent trap' where the girl nuzzles her face into her grandfather's coat & he asks - what'r you doing? She said - making a memory.
I know we can't hold on to time, but making memories of moments, that we can do.
This is a delightful use of multimedia to tell a story.
20 years in and we're finally seeing some actual interactive journalism.
Haven't looked at the source code to see how they've done it, but it's cool.

they watched it! my students tuned in on their snow day!! I talked for an hour and decided that was enough of a start for them - they all have reading and videos as well, and the way I teach isn't to talk at them, but to (hopefully) engage with them on materials and concepts I have set them to work on in the week previously, and so far they have watched a cumulative 638 mins of snow day session :) yay!
@wion @Tdorey well maybe if they are printed on fabric... yes, besides being cruel to the books, I imagine there is terrible ripping damage!!π
