I've noticed that there is another wave of refugees entering the #fediverse, this time from #Tumblr. I was wondering why, and then I did a quick web search and found this:

@rick_777 @aral well, they are a #FOSS analytics software company. Do you think that publishing on the #fediverse protects you from datamining? Have you heard of search engines? They crawl and index every public post anyone makes on any fediverse app. This is datamining.

@z428 AP vs. Diaspora is more an accident of history. Diaspora forked the OStatus standard to add things like private messages, which AP supports. All the apps that support Diaspora federation are also implementing AP. Once that happens, and Diaspora s the only app that can't communicate with the #fediverse, I suspect they'll come around ;-) Or they'll be the tech equivalent of a Marxist party agitating inside a liberal democracy where all the other parties use the election protocol ;-)

@StephR it depends on which software you're using. @bhaugen 's suggestion will work for you if you're using the same app as he is (#Mastodon?). Although the long term goal is to achieve as much consistency as possible, each app that connect to the #fediverse has its own peculiarities, and some of them can't always reconstruct threads of conversation from others. @jcbrand fair cop, but it's not for lack of trying. I had more interaction in my first year on the #Quitter-era #fediverse than I've ever managed to get on the XMPP-verse, despite more than a decade of encouraging people to use it.

I really like the way Wire allows me to post self-destructing messages. It would be of huge benefit for the long term storage needs of all #fediverse instances, if they allowed users to mark fun shiptoasting posts to self-destruct in a day, or a week, or whatever, leaving more informative or thoughtful posts to become part of the history of the web.

@tw0flower Alors déjà, pouvoir utiliser #funkwhale ou #peertube, ça serait une très nette avancée.

Mais je rêverais d'avoir un logiciel simple qui me permette d'uploader rapidement un fichier depuis chez moi, qu'ils soit automatiquement décrit (via tag ID3), avec un lecteur, et hop, je peux faire un lien qui soit lisible depuis le #fediverse.

@mlg as for solving the "power vacuum", it's a bit like the "power vacuum" there'd be if you replaced FB with #fediverse apps. It's a non-problem. Capitalism is - by the definition I'm using - concentration of political-economic power. Redistributing power is inherent to any social change that is genuinely anti-capitalist (which is why Lenin and Mao, despite their PR, were *not* anti-capitalists, just state corporatists)

it hard to have discussions of any depth in chunks of 500 chars or less, with a feeling of time pressure to reply before the last replies get lost in the in the constant torrents from the firehose
