@bhaugen I don't do FB either (suspended my account almost 10 years ago and never looked back), but I've been told the FB group is very central, and I've seen criticisms of this inconsistency between ends and means in comments on the P2PF blog. @ebel
The indigenous people at the camp, according to a post by Michael Toledano (@M_Tol on twitter.com) are "peacefully protecting their drinking water from fracking pipelines":
@alatiera no offence, but it really doesn't add much to the discussion if you respond without even clicking the link to get the basic context for the discussion :/ The title at the top of the linked page says:
> Basic security precautions for non-profits and journalists in the United States
It doesn't give an rational for what thread model(s) it's assuming (if any), and I absolutely agree with @aral that it's unhelpful (even irresponsible) to give such advice without explanations and links.
Thanks for being so considerate. But the fediverse is an asynchronous medium, no need to apologize for taking your time to respond. I appreciate you following up at all :-)
BTW I do the same thing all the time but I starting to challenge it as part of a wider attempt to be self-aware about how I use the net, and how I feel about it.
@lj_writes isn't it though? Frances' writing on this seems to really striking a chord with a lot of people. She talks with so much wisdom and compassion in her chat with Tim Wise on his #SpeakOut podcast, which is well worth a listen. When Tim describes his interactions with the young skinhead, and acknowledging the real human pain he expressed at being cut off from his own ancestral cultures, it literally brought tears to my eyes.

#Linux is a good privacy-conscious alternative to Microsoft Windows. It's free, fast and easy.
-Modern forms of Linux (such as Ubuntu or Linux Mint) are as easy to use as Windows or Mac. They're well supported, with popular apps like Spotify and Steam.

* How to interact with police safely * How to navigate capitalism and live * How to talk to doctors without screwing up your life
And there is also a time for discussions like:
* Why we shouldn't have to worry about safety around police (or whether they should exist) * How capitalism itself could be replaced/improved * Why we should be able to trust our doctors
And derailing one kind of discussion with the other is rarely helpful
"The experiences of oppression do not grant supremacy, in the same way that being a powerful colonizer does not. Justice will never look like supremacy. I wish for a new societal order that does not revolve around relations of power and domination." #ShowerThought creativity is the opposite of efficiency. Yet applied creativity can bring about greater efficiency, and efficiencies in some areas, can free and up time, energy, and resources for creativity in others.
@bhaugen yeah, I remember that from when I brought up federated social networks on the #CommonsTransition group on #Loomio ;-) I can see the value of a group like #P2PF having a token "presence" there, to make them discoverable from those outside the choir. But it seems odd to hold their main forum discussions in a FB group, instead of on Loomio or some self-hosted forum system. @ebel
@z428 BTW this conversation is very valuable, but is getting too detailed to carry on here. Figuring out how to solve these sorts of problems it exactly what the #OpenAppEcosystem group on Loomio was set up for. Feel free to contribute some of these thoughts to appropriate threads, or start a new one.
