@deutrino Past statements by @Gargron seem to indicate that they won't be phasing out OStatus support, but Mastodon instances will largely talk to each other using ActivityPub?
@acw I live in Cali, and I'm not doing many projects or dating, myself. Maybe those are not the only metrics we need to use when evaluating our own lives.
I think one mistake I made involved assuming that once I moved, everything would fall into place. I would reinvent myself, and become the person I've been afraid to be my entire life.
@ajroach42 I actually hope to do some reviews of the platforms soon. Really depends on what you're going for - there are short-form and long-term form systems, some of which inter-federate.
@heluecht I was more of a class clown than anything. It's really weird to think about. I had a lot of pointless angst and did not take school particularly seriously.
#Mastodon really needs a groups feature, preferably one that is compatible with OStatus groups. #Diaspora needs one, too.
These kinds of communication relays are actually really useful in community-building. In a microblogging environment, it's a powerful feature that Twitter doesn't offer.
@hq That's not necessarily true. There are plenty of people who end up using this stuff out of curiosity, and they end up ultimately sticking around and providing a solid foundation for community. Early Adopters.
Very few of my meatspace friends use federation - very few of them use GNU/Linux, either. But I've made many friends here that had something to give to this space. It's akin to something like online forums, where closely-knit connections emerge out of shared interests and discussions.
@strypey@strypey In principle, video game characters (footsoldiers especially) are effectively effigies designed to either tell a story, or simulate combat. I know they are not really people.
I think violent video games can serve as a legitimate outlet for aggression, and I consider them useful for dealing with stress and other unpleasant states of mind.
I shoot Nazis because I am playing a story featuring an excuse to do so, but I'm also getting back into FPS games.
I'm Sean. Quiet in the real world, but always loud in my head and on the Internet. Cynical and misanthropic sometimes, but I really like people.
I have a lifelong passion for computer science. I follow the development of federated communication systems, and write about them when I can. I also enjoy philosophy, science fiction, and double features.
I work in tech, and make a six-figure salary. I still can't pay for my own house here, or even anywhere closeby within reason. I could maybe barely afford a studio.
What I pay for on my room, in a shared-living situation with 3 other roommates, would effectively rent out a 4-bedroom house in the city I grew up in.
Currently testing it out to gauge interest. If you live in the Bay Area and want to come out and make new friends, that would be the most amazing thing.
