@Are0h I heard they're currently working on a "text filter" method of blocking instances now -- I look forward to adding words like "waifu" to that list in the future.

@forteller A good rule of thumb: don't ask questions, if someone's saying they're triggered by something. That's all. If you're curious, google it.
And trust me: confrontation isn't going to scare anyone away from asking questions, as this entire conversation proves. Good day!

@forteller A question can very well be a statement, when worded a certain way. Please read about "sealioning": https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sealioning
Whether or not you believe it exists, it is what the people you are talking to believe.

@forteller Ah!
You nearly had it. Everything was fine with your post but:"Is that really an issue for anyone? If it is, should they (you) really avoid it, not be exposed to it to get used to it?"
Unless you're a licensed health professional, you're not qualified to make a statement like that, and even if you were, you shouldn't be making it generally.*
[*I've had to learn all of this, the hard way! Welcome! :D]

Comment from 2009 lauding Firefox for it's work in ending the monopoly that IE had on the web:
https://tech.slashdot.org/comments.pl?sid=1287147&cid=28528585
"Had it not been for Firefox, Opera would still cost money, Google Chrome wouldn't exist, a few people who paid way too much for their computers would be running Safari, and most (l)users would be stuck with the latest version of IE -- IE6"
How unfortunate that we're back to a near monopoly again! Once again, it's Firefox to the rescue.

@ajroach42 Ha! I was there when that happened. :P Was loud as hell, the 747 carrying it flying as low as it did. What a day.

@ajroach42 And because it's part of the Smithsonian, it's free. (Forgot to add that there's an entire SR-71 and Space Shuttle in there).

@ajroach42 Used to live in that area -- if you have any interest in aerospace and haven't been to the big Smithsonian expo at Dulles Airport, it's worth a visit -- I liked it better than the main Smithsonian aerospace exhibit in DC.
Even people who aren't complete aerospace nerds like me seem to be in awe of it, while there. It's basically a gigantic hangar filled with entire airplanes, like the Concorde, the first passenger jet (boeing 707), etc.

Yes, I am debugging issues in 2019 dealing with IE's shoddy handling of document.getElementById returning elements without id tags, why do you ask

@maloki I would definitely like this feature for posts going over a certain length. Regardless of subject, and regardless that I _like_ that Mastodon can support longer posts, it's still staggering sometimes to be confronted in one's stream with GIANT WALL OF TEXT :P

@nivex @Tusky @ConnyDuck Ah, very nice -- I had one of those back in the day -- was the best Android phone, the year it came out! :D Amazing screen, fast as heck, thin and light.
That was five years ago, though (I was an early adopter). With the rate that phones iterate, this is unfortunately quite a long time ago. It probably still runs the applications that were available back then as good as it ever did, but anything released late, it will struggle with. :(

@alexbuzzbee @alvarezp This is my thought, too -- some really, really shortsighted attempt at defense against some sort of attack.
That being said, I wonder how broad this "linux prevention" goes -- I've been using the wonderful, third-party site "playapplemusic.com" to use Apple Music on the web (since Apple doesn't provide a web interface, or even let you download the Apple Music app on ChromeOS), and it went down about a week ago, too.

In video games, it's exciting to point at a distant mountain and say "You know what? You can actually GO THERE!"
And yet out the window of my office I see distant fog-shrouded hills and I can't be bothered. I don't even walk around the block. I just sit here typing.
... Maybe if those hills had enchanted weapons or something I could pick up. Yeah. That's what's missing.

While reading a Verge article about the most recent Youtube scandal, I just happened to see one of the best comments I've ever seen about the problems with large communities on the web (and implicitly why smaller communities like Mastodon are better at handling them):
This person gets it.

@witchfynder_finder @matt I agree -- FF12 is _nearly_ like this. I'm pretty sure you can turn off the ATB nearly entirely (I wouldn't have gotten nearly halfway through the game if you couldn't!).
That reminds me -- I need to finish this. :P

@HerraBRE @jamie Oh wow -- at first, I wasn't following what it was you were talking about, but now I do.
Kinda scary. Like you say, I can see that they're doing this to make their system more secure (especially after the high-profile political phishing scandals that happened in the US in 2016), but still, wow.
